Through interviews with relatives and friends, Dr Denise Hickey has been able to present a personal record of the lives of Gerald and Margo Lewers. |

The 1986 murder of Anita Cobby was
tragic and affecting. None of us can or should forget it. The 'Anita and
Beyond' exhibition celebrated a life lost and a
legacy both potent and affirming. |

Central
Street Live
47 pp 21 X 14 cm It was always known simply as "Central Street"- a location, a space, a signifier. Central Street Gallery itself closed in August 1970, less than five years after if had opened. But in its subsequent re-inventions as the Contemporary Art Society Gallery, as One Central Street and finally as the Institute of Contemporary Art, the space was always known as "Central Street". |

Unreal
Rock Tea Towels 80 X 50 cm Unreal Rock took us into a heady world of exploding performers, appreciative crowds, roadies, long hair, booze, pot, peace signs and huge sound equipment. The exhibition revealed one of Australian music's richest photo archives, which had been hidden away in Glenbrook, New South Wales. Usually published under the name Jacques L'Affrique, David Porter worked in the 1970s as a Melbourne-based rock music photojournalist, recording almost every great concert from 1971 until 1974. left: Elton John. |
|
Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest
commissioned Porter to print more than 250 photographs for this,
his first solo exhibition. With daring and skill L'Affrique/Porter
managed to get one great image after another. Exploiting shadow
and light/dark contrasts, his compositions are always intriguing
- sometimes complex, sometimes boldly simple. Even more
importantly, L'Affrique/Porter had the photojournalist's ability
to see - and seize - the emblematic moment.
