FRIENDS OF PENRITH REGIONAL GALLERY & THE LEWERS BEQUEST

The Gallery is enriched, sustained and linked to the community through the The Friends of Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest, the Gallery’s official service and support organisation.

The Friends' generosity is extended through various services including guiding, front of house duties, fundraising, assisting with education and public program events, catering, exhibition changeover and much more. The dedicated work of the Friends is essential to the Gallery, and they are an integral part of the Gallery’s success in achieving its objectives.

There are many benefits enjoyed by the Friends as a result of their involvement with this service organisation, including:

  • Invitation to all Gallery openings.
  • Invitation to special previews where members of the Friends can meet and talk with artists.
  • Special excursions to visit other galleries, artists’ studios and other places of interest .
  • Social functions and a sense of belonging.
  • Forming new friendships and networks.
  • 10% discount on all full-priced publications and merchandise in the Gallery bookshop.
  • Concession rates for workshops and events.
  • Reciprocal membership benefits at other regional and state galleries.

The Friends of Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest hold monthly meetings at the Gallery on the first Monday of each month.

Margo and Gerald Lewers, the original owners of the property at Emu Plains, were instrumental in the development of Modernism in Australia. The Gallery’s holdings includes a rich representative survey of Margo and Gerald Lewers’ work, including painting, sculpture, wall hangings, ceramics, mosaics and fountains.

The Gallery’s permanent collection is an important survey of the development of Abstraction in Australian art from the early 1930’s to the mid 1980’s. The Gallery also houses a vibrant collection of work from Margo and Gerald’s contemporaries, including work by Robert Klippel, Desiderius Orban, Elwyn Lynn, Frank and Margel Hinder, Judy Cassab, Yvonne Audette, Frank Hodgkinson, Henry Salkauskas and Stanislaus Rapotec and Carl Plate.
