Strictly Samoan 23 August - Opening event - Sunday Morning Kids Club
Look, listen, learn and create in the gallery
with our wonderfully talented Gallery Guides. 31 August Weave a wall hanging from Hessian, wool, feathers and fur inspired by the fine mat tradition of the Samoan Islands. 28 September Create a family portrait from paint and collage, taking inspiration from the Samoan tradition of Aiga (family portraits). Bring extra collage materials if you like. 26 October Design your own tattoo stencil and create a series of different coloured tattoo prints. 18 October 7pm Adventures in Paradise: Art in Motion film event and Markets A montage of movies you can’t get at the video store! Join Mu Meson Archivists Jay Katz and Miss Death from FBI FM’s Naked City (aka Jaimie and Aspasia Leonarder) in a unique film and Gallery experience. South Sea Island travelogues and ethnographic films from the 1950s to 1970s. When air travel became affordable the South Sea Islands were marketed as exotic tourist locations offering paradise. Films include Wings to Hawaii (1950s) and Land Divers of Pentecost (1970s).
A juicy program of films from the internationally renowned Mu-Meson Archives. Mu Meson Archivists Jay Katz and Miss Death from FBI FM's Naked City (aka Jaimie and Aspasia Leonarder) curate and present a unique series of film nights inspired by our exhibition program. Each film evening will be a smorgasbord of rare shorts and documentaries. Enjoy the exquisite setting of the Penrith Regional gallery as you sit under the stars in the aromatic garden or (in inclement weather) get amongst the works of art in the Gallery itself.
