Penrith Regional Gallery & The Lewers Bequest is celebrating the successful completion of its Collection Significance Assessment Project. The Gallery was awarded a $4,000 Federal Community Heritage Grant to evaluate the cultural significance of the Gallery and its permanent collection. The significance assessment process is crucial to understanding the history of the Gallery as a centre of artist activity in the mid-century period. According to independent consultant, Dr Sally Watterson

the site itself, gardens and artworks are unique to the local area and relates to its rural past at a time of great change. As such, Penrith Regional Gallery presents an intimate picture of one of the key sites of modernist art and design in NSW.

Receiving the Heritage Grant has awarded the Gallery a fabulous opportunity to further its ambition to increase engagement with scholars, students and the general public interested in researching this fascinating period in history.
