Central
Street Live
Sydney's Central Street Gallery was international
and infamous - it was art shock therapy. Central
Street Live re-visits radical Australian painting of
the 1960's.
Included are works by Gunter Christmann, Max Cullen,
James Doolin, Barry Hirst, Michael Johnson, Tony
McGillick, lan Milliss, Harold Noritis, Alan
Oldfield, Wendy Paramor, Rollin Schlicht, Joseph
Szabo,
Vernon Treweeke, Dick Watkins, John White and
Normana Wight.
Flipside
In the 60's
when music came on vinyl, the track on the flipside
of the record went with the deal. Played as an
afterthought, it sometimes offered up an unexpected
treat.
Flipside is the other track to the Central Street
Gallery story - the role negotiated by two women
artists in the pre Women's Lib, male-dominated
Sydney art scene of the 60's and early 70's - Margo
Lewers (1908-1978) and
Wendy Paramor (1938-1975).
