reMix - a visual exploration of the links between making and appreciating art by a new generation of artists.

These eight talented visual arts students from Nepean High School responded to three key works from the gallery's permanent collection, using them as stimuli for a diversity of visual and conceptual responses. Guided by a project team of teachers, artists and curators through a series of interactive sessions, these emerging artists created contemporary re-interpretations of the ideas and techniques of well known artists Margo Lewers, Robert Klippel and Dusan Marek. The responses are visually diverse and challenging, responding to abstraction and locating it within contemporary formative art practice.

Through reMix, the artists experienced a metamorphosis in both their artistic and personal development, gaining a wealth of skills and knowledge as well as the confidence to push the boundaries of thought and practice. In turn, the artists’ fresh perspective has offered new significance to the artworks, decoding abstract ideas and techniques through a more contemporary idiom. reMix was a tribute to the diversity and innovation of these artists, bearing witness to a wealth of talent and originality that has only just begun to be revealed.
